Springfield 1842 Cabin Experience

Hey there!

We are Springfield Distillery, and we are so glad you’re here! As the first post in our blog series, we hope this encourages you to stick around a while and get to know us and Halifax County a little better. Over the past four years, we’ve had the privilege of creating unique experiences in-person, and now we are excited to share more of our story with you on this corner of the internet.

When considering what to share first this new year, we couldn’t think of a better way to introduce you to Springfield and its southern hospitality than to share our 1842 cabin experience with you on the blog today.

From the moment you turn down River Road, you are transported to a whole new world of farmland, country houses, and winding back roads. Nestled in the countryside of Halifax, Virginia, our distillery has become one of the community’s staples. A family-owned and operated business that launched just over four years ago, we have quickly grown from offering one whiskey to a whole host of products and services! Coming up with new flavors is a family-affair around here, and we love to see whose idea is the next favorite.

However, one of the most charming features of our distillery and its property are the two 1842 cabins where guests can enjoy the peace and serenity of the Virginia landscape. Hunter’s Retreat and Mason’s Chapel were built on our property with you in mind. Both unique in size and design (and named after our boys), they sit opposite a fire pit area where guests can relax and stargaze under the strands of twinkling lights that magically illuminate the path each night.

When you pull up to the cabins, you will immediately note the porches with ample seating to enjoy your morning coffee, a good book, or an evening cocktail from the distillery. Once inside, you’ll be enamored by the stunning architecture and best-sleep-you’ve-ever-had beds. The textures of the fabrics, and the modern take on classic cabin features leave you feeling like you’ve stepped into another time and place entirely. You’ll even find carrots and apples waiting for you to feed our donkeys, Henry and Cole, and a complimentary bottle of wine from a local vineyard.

On the weekends, you can find our distillery just a short walk away where you can enjoy cocktails from our tasting room and meet locals on our large porch and deck or venture out into the surrounding areas to explore more of Virginia’s rich history and culture. See a list of things to do in the area here.

We’ve often been asked which cabin is our favorite, and we honestly don’t have a good answer to that one! You’ll have to book a weekend in each to decide for yourselves, though it should be considered that Hunter’s Retreat can host four adults with a king-sized bed and two full beds in the loft space and Mason’s Chapel sleeps two adults on a queen bed. Both do have their own kitchenette with a refrigerator, sink, and coffee maker (essential!) to make your stay feel even more homey.

No matter how long you’re with us or how you like to enjoy your vacation, Springfield is the perfect place to get away from it all or explore a new area! You can book your stay in the cabins here and view more specifics for your upcoming visit on our website.

Our Best,

The Springfield Team
